Bio-Cutlery Rethought – Recrafted by Green Box– Reusable To Go
Turning the vision of making plastic cutlery more environmentally friendly and reusable into reality, our "Reusable Bio-Cutlery" has become a reality. It was meant to be biodegradable. Then, considering residual material utilization, our unique reusable cutlery was born. Of course, it wasn't quite that simple – several years of development and research have gone into this pioneering work. This innovative bio-cutlery redefines sustainability for cutlery in the out-of-home business and catering. "If you want something done right, do it yourself!" Following this motto, we took the development and production of the alternative plastic cutlery into our own hands. The project that gave rise to our "Reusable Bio-Cutlery" was supported by the Central Innovation for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (BMWi) through the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM). With so much know-how, our highly motivated development team aimed to create an innovative composite material. We achieved the following goals:
- Reusable
- Biobased
- Biodegradable
- Suitable for food contact
- Temperature resistance up to +70 °C
- Suitable for injection molding
Based on the insights gained from this project, we developed a material mix from which we now produce the reusable bio-cutlery in Germany through the injection molding process. The knives, forks, and spoons are made from a completely new blend of bio-plastic and wood flour. This reusable cutlery, as a genuine alternative to conventional plastic cutlery, consists of an impressive 80% renewable raw materials, making it biodegradable. The wood flour used is a byproduct of the wood industry and comes from sustainable forestry. Manufacturing our bio-cutlery in Germany aligns with our commitment to minimizing CO2 emissions.
